portfolio > usability testing and field work
Over the past year and a half, I have had extensive experience conducting usability tests for a variety of products and companies at the Design and Usability Center. I also took a course in which a team of us planned, implemented, analyzed, and reported a usability test.
Ethnographic Field Research at a Non-Profit
My final report, which I attempted to keep as true to an ethnography as possible (narrative, biographical, and addressing the issue of the subjective observer), is entitled Open Office Obstacles. While observing the goings-on of a Boston non-profit with a well-established entrepreneurial sector, I discovered that the open office setting (lacking cubicles and private rooms) was problematic. Despite the open office facilitating communication and motivating office workers to discuss solutions, it lacked privacy, a way to usher in potential customers, and a method of capturing good goal-oriented ideas. I have included my presentation but not the final report due to confidentiality.
Kronos usability test
For Gregg Almquist’s (eXperient) class assignment, myself and a team of 3 others conducted a successful usability test on a Human Resources software. We presented our findings in a PowerPoint presentation at the end of the semester. I was the lead on this projects, as I had the most experience planning, implementing, analyzing and reporting usability tests. My teammates were Marc Cajolet (Kronos), Kevin Chen (Pegasystems) and Tama Rose (Bentley University).
I have included nearly all documentation from this usability study including the project proposal, the recruiting screener, and the moderator's script. I have also included the final report (however the video files are not functioning).

Google TM Street View survey
For my Field Methods course with Meena Kothandaraman (Self Employed), I chose to field a survey asking users their thoughts and perceptions of the Google Street View application. I then analyzed these results and reported them. In the final report, I also had to include client-facing details like a project schedule and budget.
