co-founder, former president Human Factors in Information Design Organization

This organization (hFIDO) is dedicated to being a useful resource for Bentley College’s Human Factors in Information Design students.  As a resource, we provide information on local meetings, organize social events, and answer any questions students may have.  In addition to these resources, hFIDO receives numerous user research leads, which we distribute to students interested in adding content to their portfolios.  These leads are for non-profit organizations such as community websites, and personal websites.  Although I am no longer president, I am still involved in helping other students with portfolio development.

member, Usability Professionals Association

I joined UPA in 2007.  I was fortunate enough to earn the Ovo Studio student sponsorship to attend the 2008 UPA Conference in Baltimore.  There, I attended lectures ranging from how to the usability into companies to using ethnographic methods.  I found the networking and the informal post-lecture conversations in the hotel elevator to be very valuable as well.  This year, I will present a poster for the 2009 UPA Conference in Portland, OR.

member, UPA Boston

I am also a member of the vibrant and active Boston chapter of UPA.  I frequently attend events.  It is sometimes a challenge to attend meetings while I am a student and taking evening classes, however I try my best to attend.  I will be presenting a debate with my colleague Martha Kam (Design and Usability Center) on the use of ethnography in user-centered design at the Boston UPA Conference.

member, Rocky Mountain CHI

I am a member of the Rocky Mountain CHI to maintain a network back in my home state of Colorado.  So far, being a part of the Rocky Mountain CHI has made me hopeful that usability jobs do exist outside of the Boston area.

member, IDSA Boston

I am a member of the Industrial Designers Society of America because of my interest in applying human factors in product development.  Although I have more experience conducting user research on software and web-based applications, I have a deeply rooted interest in this field.  In fact, my interest in human factors began after watching the research and design process of an industrial design consultancy.
